The best free AI video generator (and what "free" really means)
Short answer: Google Vids is the best free option right now: 10 Veo 3.1 clips a month on any personal Google account. Veo tied for first in our October test. Most other "free" plans are trials with watermarks.
We checked each official pricing page on October 16, 2026. The scores come from our own blind test of the underlying model, not of the free tier itself.
| Option | What's free | Watermark | The catch | Model score (Oct) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Vids (Veo 3.1) | 10 Veo 3.1 clips per month on any personal Google account source | Invisible SynthID watermark (all Veo output) | Inside Google Vids, not the Gemini app. Gemini-app video needs a paid Google AI plan | 7.2/10 |
| Kling (Basic plan) | Basic plan is $0 but has no monthly credits; free credits come from promotions source | Yes on free exports | 1080p and watermark removal are paid features | 7.2/10 |
| PixVerse (Basic) | 60 starting credits plus 30 daily credits (reset daily, expire unused) source | Yes, watermark-free is a paid feature | Up to 540p on the free plan. We tested V6 at 720p through the paid API | 7.1/10 |
| Runway (Free) | One-time 125 credits that don't expire source | Not stated on the pricing page; check your export | Gen-4.5 needs the Standard plan ($12/mo yearly, $15 monthly). 125 credits ≈ 10s of Gen-4.5 at 12 credits/s if you upgrade | 6.9/10 |
| Higgsfield | Reported in Aug–Sep 2026 as having no ongoing free credits (we couldn't load the official pricing page to confirm) source | Reported: free-account output is watermarked | Paid plans bundle several third-party models under one credit balance | Not tested yet |
Our picks
- Best overall free option: Google Vids (Veo 3.1). Ten clips a month. We tested the closely related Veo 3.1 Fast, which scored 7.2/10 and was our best model for faces and premium product lighting (review).
- Best for daily tinkering: PixVerse. 30 daily credits that reset every day, but capped at 540p with a watermark. We tested PixVerse V6 at 720p through its paid API: it scored 7.1/10, a close third, with the best motion in our test (review).
- Best for action, if you catch a promo: Kling. Kling 3.0 scored 7.2/10, tied with Veo, and won our physics test (review). Its free plan now depends on promotional credits.
- Try before you subscribe: Runway. 125 one-time credits. Gen-4.5 itself needs a paid plan.

Same prompt, four models: what the free-tier models can do
“Close-up of a woman laughing at a café window, rain streaking the glass, shallow depth of field, handheld.” Veo 3.1 Fast and Kling 3.0 had the best results.
adherence 9motion 7quality 9artifacts 8
Tight close-up, rain-streaked glass in foreground, natural laugh; subtle handheld drift.
adherence 8motion 7quality 8artifacts 8
Close-up genuine laugh; rain on glass less pronounced; soft but pleasant.
adherence 7motion 8quality 8artifacts 7
Close medium shot with a genuine laugh and hand gesture; café bokeh, but no visible rain on the glass.
adherence 6motion 8quality 8artifacts 7
Medium-wide café scene with a second person; not a close-up; natural motion.
When free stops making sense
If you need more than about 10 clips a month, watermark-free exports or commercial rights, paying per clip is often cheaper than a subscription. In our test a 4-second 720p clip cost $0.21 (PixVerse V6 with audio, on PixVerse's API), $0.48 (Runway Gen-4.5, silent), $0.52 (Kling 3.0 with audio) or $0.60 (Veo 3.1 Fast with audio). FAQ
What is the best free AI video generator in 2026?
For most people it's Google Vids. Any personal Google account gets 10 Veo 3.1 clips a month at no cost (Google, April 2026). Veo 3.1 Fast scored 7.2/10 in our October test, tied for first. Kling's free plan works too, but it now depends on promotional credits.
Is there a free AI video generator with no watermark?
Not really. Kling and PixVerse put a visible watermark on free exports. Google Veo adds an invisible SynthID watermark to all output. The cheapest watermark-free route we know is paying per clip through an API (our 4-second 720p test clips cost $0.21–$0.60).
Is Kling AI still free?
Kling's Basic plan is $0, but per its official credit policy (checked October 16, 2026) it has no fixed monthly credit allowance. Free credits come from promotions, and free exports are watermarked.
Can I use free AI videos commercially?
Check each plan's terms. Free plans are often limited to personal use. Paid plans usually add commercial rights and remove watermarks.
Did you test the free versions?
No. We tested the underlying models (Veo 3.1 Fast, Kling 3.0 and Runway Gen-4.5 through the paid Runway Dev API, PixVerse V6 through the paid PixVerse Platform API) at 720p. Free tiers may use lower resolution or different settings, so treat our scores as the model's ceiling.
